NBA Draft Profile:<br />Terrance Williams, Louisville

After guiding the Louisville Cardinals to a Big East Championship in both the regular season and conference tournament, Terrence Williams came one game short of reaching the Final Four in the 64 team dance. While the season may have ended in disappointment for the team, Terrence has set himself up after four strong years at Louisville as a lock for the first round of the NBA draft this coming June. He capped off his senior season as a unanimous all conference first team selection in the Big East. Terrence was as close to a triple double threat as a college player could be. Every time he stepped on the court scouts were on hand drooling at the potential mismatches he can create at the next level. Terrance’s biggest asset is his versatility. He has the ability to score, rebound from the perimeter positions, and play the unique point forward spot in the offense.

Offensively, Terrence can beat you so many different ways. His athleticism and long profile make him a nightmare to defend. He loves to attack the rim, but can also beat you by creating for his teammates. Terrence can set up shop in a half court offense or he can kill you in transition. Pick your poison. The one thing that Terrence lacks that most first round selections bring with them to the NBA is a nose for being a dominant scorer. Terrence averaged 12+pts/gm and was a clutch scorer when his team needed it. But he wasn’t the guy who led the charge night in and night out. It’s not because he lacks the skills to become that guy, I think it’s just not in his nature as Terrence prefers to get others involved and concentrate on rebounding and defense. Most NBA coaches are not going to complain about this.
Defensively, there are few prospects in this year’s draft class that have the versatility to guard three positions at the next level. Terrence is a physical specimen and pulled down 8.6 rebounds per game from the perimeter positions. His long wingspan allowed him to get into the passing lanes often and become a league leader in steals. Terrence has great lateral quickness and his all around defense will make his transition to the next level that much easier. Most prospects come into the league below the defensive curve and it costs them playing time early in their careers. This won’t be the case for Terrence Williams. His best offense is his defense.

Will be selected: Pick # 17-25
