Q&A With Tobias Harris, Dix Hills West

On Day 3 of the LBJ Skills Academy, I had the chance to focus in on versatile Long Island forward Tobias Harris. Tobias is working with the big men this afternoon, but demonstrated the ability to step out and do damage on the wing. He has a very fluid and developed face up game, showing the ability to knock down the mid range jumper as well as getting to the rim off the bounce. After the afternoon session, Tobias was gracious enough to sit down and discuss his upcoming season as well as his ongoing recruiting process.

Q: So you transferred from Dix Hills West to Long Island Lutheran, than back to Dix Hills West. Why don’t you tell me a little bit about the reasoning behind that decision.

A: Just a personal reason. I want to be at home with my friends and just want to be able to be somewhere where I’m going to have to work even harder to help us win a State Championship. Just being able to work hard, that’s basically it.

Q: So what are you working on right now to get better and be more ready for the next level?

A: My speed and agility, my jump shot, my post moves, basically everything on my game. I need to work on everything and just keep going. I want to work on my defense a lot also.

Q: So I got the chance to meet your father last night and he was telling me your going to be spending three weeks working with the Iceman, George Gervin. Why don’t you tell me a little bit about that.

A: It’s a great experience. I went there one time when I was in 7th grade going into 8th grade, so it should be good this time also. I think we’re going to be going out there in August, so it should be good.

Q: So what kind of things will you be working on? What do you hope to take from the Iceman? That’s quite a role model to be working out with seeing how much he accomplished in his career.

A: Definately shooting touch, he teaches me a lot about shooting. Some post moves, moves on the wing also, so I’m just looking to go down there and get a lot better.

Q: So your working with the big men, but I see you have a really smooth perimeter game. Are you looking to be a 3 or a 4 at the next level?

A: A combination of both. Probably at the next level I’ll be a three man, but I’ll be able to post up and do a lot of big men stuff, so that’s the reason I’m with the big men.

Q: Have you been making any visits lately?

A: I’ve been to Notre Dame and Georgia Tech, and went to Tennessee’s Elite Camp, but besides that no upcoming visits. I don’t think.

Q: So you’ve been to Notre Dame and Georgia Tech. How were those visits?

A: They were both good visits. I like the campuses, the coaching staff, and the players.

Q: So who else is on your list?

A: I like Syracuse, Notre Dame, UConn, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Memphis, and Kentucky.

Q: What is that every team in America?

A: (laughing) I think that’s all.

Q: Thanks for your time Tobias. Good luck with your decision and good luck in the upcoming season !
