Syracuse Commit CJ Fair Talks About his Future in the Dome

Syracuse commit CJ Fair has been hobbled by knee injuries recently, missing his entire Junior year with a torn ACL. Before our interview began, he told me that he was playing without his knee brace for the first time since his injury and has been feeling great. From what I saw out on the floor, he looks to be all the way back. He’s put on an offensive clinic the last few days, making a very high percentage of his jump shots. He’s cutting well, moving without the ball, demonstrating great lift, and looks to be showing no signs of being slowed down by the injury. He’s been outstanding in both drills and scrimmages.

Q: So your playing with the Baltimore Elite and joining the lineage of BMORE area recruits to commit to Syracuse. How much did the success of Carmelo Anthony and Donte Greene impact your decision to wear Orange?

A: It impacted my decision a lot. The day I commited I was up there on a visit and Carmelo was there. I talked to him for a while. I liked the school a lot, but than after talking to him, I like it even more. I just thought that was the place for me to go.

Q: So what kind of skill set are you going to bring to the table once you do arrive at Syracuse?

A: I think I’m getting the hang of all of it, but I’m a 6′6 scorer, one that plays well with his team, and can hit the open shot. I just like to play hard.

Q: I know you’re here with Dion Waiters, another guy who’s committed to Syracuse. Have you guys had a chance to talk about what it’s going to be like to play together?

A: He’s real cool. At the Top 100 Camp he was my roommate so we got a lot of talking in, and then we were real close. We hit each other up here and there. I think once we go to Syracuse, we’re going to form a nice 1-2 punch.

Q: So I saw that you had a pretty good chemistry out there with Trevor Cooney. Have you been in his ear at all about joining you at Syracuse?

A: Ya, Ya…..Coach told me to get in his ear because he’s a great shooter and he can open up the floor for our other players.

Q: Have you been following the cuse at all? Did you watch the 6OT game?

A: Ya, I had fell asleep in the third over time because I had school the next morning, but I was supposed to go up there. My high school was in the State semi-finals. It’s too bad, cause I wanted to go up and show my support.

Q: Any messages for the fans of Syracuse before I let you go?

A: Can’t wait to get up there and hopefully the fans will show me a lot of love, cause I already know they will. I just can’t wait.

Q: If they saw what I’ve seen thus far, trust me they wouldn’t be able to wait either. I have a feeling they will show you lots of love in your 4 years up at Syracuse.

Damn right. Get in Cooney’s ear CJ. We definitely want him following you up to Syracuse in the ‘11 class.
