ESPN Rise Boost Mobile Elite 24 Rosters Announced

Posted on 06. Aug, 2009 by Nolan in ESPN Rise Elite 24, Elite 24 Rosters, High School

ESPN Rise has selected the 24 players who will compete in this years Boost Mobile Elite game at the world famous Rucker Park in New York City. While the 2008 game featured huge dunks and unbelievable talent, I believe the field in 2009 is equally as strong. One thing that seperates this game from all other games throughout the summer is that ESPN Rise selects the best 24 players regardless of class or shoe affiliation. This is the best of the best folks, so be sure to tune in Saturday August 22 at 7pm. Although the actual game is being played Friday the 21st, ESPNU will be broadcasting the game on tape delay on Saturday night. As always I will be providing player evaluations and my thoughts on the event.

I just read about Andre Drummond on From the video I saw he looks like a physical marvel, but of course he is onl;y 15 nearing 16 and seemed to look like he was not playing very hard. Nonetheless, seems like quite an exciting prospect. Is Elite 24 slipping as far as guys they are inviting? It seems like some of the bigger name prospects are being left off more so than in the past. Well, as I said before, it is just a fun All-Star concept to begin with, so it is not like I have much at stake for who gets picked.

For some reason ESPN doesn’t see Fab in the same light as the rest of the world. They have him ranked 59 in their top 100 which is a disgrace.

I will certainly be watching my man Phil. One of my favorite players in the class. Guy was born to be a leader of men. He’s also a super polite kid who you can’t help but root for.

LaQuinton has had a relatively disappointing summer. Although I think he’s the next Scottie Pippen (hopefully he’ll manage his money a little better) he hasn’t really improved this year and I can’t think of a guy on this list that warrants being replaced.

As for Michael Gilchrest, he’s going to make a lot of money playing this game. His talent level is SCARY for a kid his age. We could be looking at a future #1 pick, Olympian, and Nike poster boy. Ditto for James McAdoo (though not quite as good).

But if you want to know my absolute favorite in 2011, his name is Myck Kabongo for St. Benedicts/Grassroots Canada. He’s not ranked in anyone’s top 10 but by the time he graduates he’s going to jump past every point guard but Marquis Teague (yes Jeff Teague’s little brother)

Also, I am surprised that LaQuinton Ross is not in the field. He played their the past two years I believe, and was in it the summer before his freshman year. Also have heard that Mike Gilchrist is the top player in the class of 2011. James McAdoo is supposedly ill as well. Nonetheless, it is an All-Star game at the Rucker and it will be fun seeing some of the best regardless of class show their game. I remember seeing the stats when Jrue Holliday and Brandon Jennings just destroyed it, and Lance Stephenson always seemed to step it up. I read an article on Perry Ellis in Dime recently and looked at some footage and kid is a beast, could be a monster prospect.

Where is Fab? You can’t tell me he’s not one of the 24 best. So what’s the deal?
