Grassroots Canada’s Dwight Powell to Stanford

Posted on 17. Oct, 2009 by Nolan Shulman in High School

Johnny Dawkins is flat out getting it done on the recruiting trail. Just over one week since landing Ocean View High School’s Anthony Brown, Dawkins secured a commitment from IMG Academy’s Dwight Powell. Dwight, our 27th ranked player and 5th ranked center in the class of 2010 is a huge get for the Stanford program. He’s a very smart player, who understands help defense, can protect the rim, and is improving his offensive post moves. He was instrumental in helping lead Grassroots Canada to another terrific summer. He chose Stanford over Georgia Tech and Harvard.

Dawkins is starting to build a terrific nucleus down at Stanford. As a Duke assistant he was an outstanding recruiter and that hasn’t changed at Stanford. The future looks bright for the Cardinals and their days playing in the College Basketball Invitation post season tournament appear over.
