Kentwood’s Josh Smith to UCLA

According to Dave Telep, the UCLA bruins have landed their next star big man. Kentwood senior and Seattle Rotary star Josh Smith has decided to take his act to Pauley Pavilion and become a part of one of the great lineages of all-time. Having the opportunity to protect the same rim as Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Bill Walton, and Kevin Love was too much to pass up and according to Smith the decision was an easy one. He told Dave Telep of scout.com he knew UCLA was his future destination all along. According to Smith “I would say at the end of my junior year. Before that, they were in the front kind of like what the rumors were saying. I gave the other schools a chance just to see. I wanted to look at every aspect of staying home but after going over ever factor, I knew it was UCLA.”
Smith is our 15th ranked player in the class of 2010 and our 4th ranked Center. He’s a 6-9, 270 pound anchor who can be counted on to play excellent help defense. Not only can he erase everything and everyone who invades his paint, but he can also score on the other end of the floor. He’s got developing post moves and should learn a lot about the position bouncing ideas off some of the great people in our game.
Josh will join Mater Dei shooting guard Tyler Lamb to form an outstanding 2010 class. They may not have a lot of players, but they definately picked up two guys who will make a major impact on the program. A total coup for Ben Howland and his UCLA Bruins.
