NCAA: November Games To Keep An Eye On

Posted on 05. Nov, 2009 by Nolan Shulman in NCAA

With the season less than a week away, Flagrant Fouls highlights some of the key games taking place in November.

FIU @ North Carolina- Zeke makes his coaching debut against the defending National Champs. This is the game Isiah and athletic director Pete Garcia tried to get out of, claiming “We will not be bullied into a unilateral decision to play North Carolina after we already agreed to play Ohio State.” In the end, they were bullied and will play the Heels in the opening round of the Coaches vs. Cancer. After losing to Northwood, an NAIA team in the exhibition season, good luck !!!

Albany@Syracuse- After losing to Division 2 LeMoyne College, the Orange look to bounce back from the embarrassment and put it to Albany. Wes Johnson scored 34 the last time around and looks to be the real deal.

Davidson@Butler- No Stephen Curry means Andrew Lovedale will have to pick up the slack. The senior to be averaged 12.5 points and nearly 9 rebounds a game last year. He’ll need to pick up the scoring slack if Davidson is going to have a shot in this one. For Butler, Gordan Hayward and Matt Howard are poised to take Butler on a deep tournament run this year. They are a top 25 team and figure to remain there for the remainder of the season.

Creighton@Dayton- The Blue Jays should give Chris Wright and Marcus Johnson a stiff early season test and should be a good measuring stick for when they play the Yellow Jackets later in the week.

UC Irvin@Texas- A chance to get our first look at the newest freshman sensation wearing burnt orange. Findlay Prep’s Avery Bradley may not have the physical attributes of Kevin Durant, but he’s got a better surrounding cast and is a certified winner. He may not put together 28 point halves like KD, but he’s going to make a similar impact by leading the Horns to a lot of W’s.

Miami(OH)@Kentucky- Our first look at the number one freshman in the land, John Wall. Wall was suspended for his game against Morehead State, but will return vs Miami(OH) giving us an opportunity to see perhaps the best recruiting class of the decade make their “official” debut.

Dayton@Georgia Tech- How will Dayton handle a frontcourt which features Derrick Favors and Gani Lawai? They might be the scariest frontcourt in America. How good the Yellow Jackets become will be on the shoulders of Iman Shumpert, a young man who should become one of the elite lead guards in college basketball this season. One thing is foresure, GT will have more than 2 ACC wins this year.

North Carolina@Ohio State- Coaches vs Cancer in the mecca should be a great indicator in terms of how good the new look Heels will be. Replacing Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson, and Wayne Ellington will be tough, but as always Carolina has reloaded. Winner plays the winner of Cuse@California.
