Trevor Cooney Picks Syracuse

Posted on 26. Feb, 2010 by Nolan Shulman in High School

Tomorrow could be the busiest and most happening day in Syracuse the entire calendar year.  More than 34, 000 screaming fans will be in the dome to witness it's Orange take on #8 Villanova with a chance to claim at least a share of the Big East regular season championship.  ESPN's College Gameday crew will be setting up shop at 11am and the fans will be flooding Marshall Street by early morning.  I know I've got my eye on a slice at Varsity at some point tomorrow afternoon.  It'll be my first trip to the dome since the Elite Camp.  Something tells me the atmosphere will be a little more jacked this time around.

Regardless of tomorrow's outcome,  it's a great weekend if you're a fan of the Orange.   This afternoon, 2011 sharp shooter Trevor Cooney made a verbal pledge to the Cuse, ending his recruitment and adding to Syracuse's recent fortune on the recruiting trail.

Coach Stan Waterman (Trevor's high school coach at Sanford in Delaware) was extatic when reached by phone.  "It's a great University and he'll play for a Hall of Fame coach.  The system is a great fit for Trevor.  Similar style to McNamara, Rautins, Devendorf.  Great decision for Trevor.  His Hard work has paid off."

A 6-4 combo guard and the best shooter in the class of 2011, Trevor has many of the same attributes that all three of those great players possessed.  He's also probably the most athletic of the bunch.  Trevor is more than just a shooter.  He can handle it, he can pass it, he can slash to the rim, and most importantly he takes the game personally.  He's got a lot of work ahead of him to reach the lofty expectations and comparisons cuse fans have already started to annoint on him, but he's a hard worker, a grounded kid, and he's ready for the challenge.

Trevor will be at the Syracuse game tomorrow to witness Syracuse fans break the all time on campus attendance record.  Something tells me he'll get a warm welcome.

The top shooter in the class of 2011 is officiall off the board.
