Loughlin & Rice Advance in CHSAA Playoffs

Posted on 07. Mar, 2010 by Ray Anczelowicz in High School, Tournaments

During CHSAA Inersectional Quarter-Final action on Friday, two of New York City’s top teams, Bishop Loughlin and Rice, were looking to move forward in the championship hunt.

First up on Friday night was Jayvaughn Pinkston and his Lions squad against All Hallows.

Led by Manhattan-bound guard Michael Alvarado, All Hallows took a 25-22 lead into halftime. Pinkston had nine points through the first two quarters to keep Loughlin relatively close in the ball-game.

Pinkston was about to show everyone why he’s heading to Big East-power, Villanova, in the second half.

By becoming a force in the paint the last two quarters, Loughlin was able to push by All Hallows behind its McDonald's All-American.

Bishop Loughlin defeated All Hallows 64-54 to advance onto the semi-finals.

Pinkston had an impressive stat-line; 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals in the win. Alvarado led All Hallows with 14 points, 4 rebound and 3 steals in his final high school game.

Following Loughlin’s win, Rice was set to battle Xaverian.

A 14-12 first quarter deficit would be as close Xaverian would come the rest of the game.

Heading into half with a 33-20 advantage, the Rice Raiders kept their steady lead going throughout the game.

Rice would take down Xaverian 65-51 to meet up with Loughlin on Wednesday at St. John’s University for a semi-final match-up.

Junior standout Jermaine Sanders was beyond impressive on Friday as he recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Kadeem Jack finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks in the win. Senior Justin Exum led Xaverian with 15 points in a loss.
