Proctor Academy/CIA Bounce Forward Grandy Glaze to UNLV

Posted on 15. Mar, 2010 by Nolan Shulman in High School, Interviews

UNLV received their first at-large bid to the dance since 2000 and they'll square off against Northern Iowa Thursday in Oklahoma City.   While it's never too early to begin preparing for March Madness, the Running Rebels have another reason to celebrate today.

Lon Kruger made an enormous splash on the recruiting trail today as UNLV landed one of Canada's elite forward prospects, Grandy Glaze.  The Proctor Academy and CIA Bounce standout becomes UNLV's first recruit in the class of 2011.  Flagrant Fouls 12th ranked Power Forward will give the Runnin Rebels some much needed help inside.

Chace Stanback currently leads the Rebels in rebounding at just 5.8 boards per game.  Grandy will certainly help them in that category as he'll bring toughness, energy, and an unparalleled nose for the basketball.  Kruger will be counting on Grandy to play both forward positions and to do the dirty work, something Grandy is excited about.

"I'm going to go in there and do everything I can to help the team win.  I want to win the National Championship.  I aim for the stars.  I'm just going to go in and play hard. " proclaims Grandy.

So why did Grandy decide UNLV was the school that fit him best?  Actually, it was his visit to the elite camp that sealed the deal for him.  " I had an experience at the elite camp that no one else in the country can say they went through.  I actually got yelled at during the elite camp.  There was a possession and I was slacking.  Coach Grensing called me out in front of everybody.  That's when I realized he's really got my back.  He sees me as more than just a basketball player. He really does care about me. "

With his relationship with the coaches in tact, Grandy also felt UNLV's 4 out 1 in offense would suit his game.  " I think it's going to give me a chance to work the high post, play out on the wing, work at all the skills that I've been working on.  I'm excited. " said Grandy

Grandy is a member of CIA Bounce/ Team Takeover Canada's outstanding young nucleus.  When reached via text, CIA Bounce coach Tony McIntyre had this to say.  "Grandy's energy will contribute to UNLV.  He brings a scoring presence and a positive work ethic.  It's a great day for Grandy and we're extremely happy for him."

UNLV is back in the tournament and they are using the publicity to help them get it done on the recruiting trail.  If they can get more players like Grandy in the fold, they won't have to wait another 10 years to receive an at large bid and embark on another road to the Final Four.

***** Thanks to the UNLV faithful for sending me emails helping me get my facts straight.  When I first published the article I said it was their first time in the dance since 2000.  What I meant to say was that it was their first time receiving an at large bid since 2000, and that despite losing to San Diego State in the Mountain West Finals, they are dancing regardless.  Love your passion. ******

Late night fellas. I know UNLV has been to the tournament since 2000. What I meant was that it’s their first time as an at large since 2000. Thanks for helping me out. Can never have too many editors. Article has been edited. Much appreciated.

Nice article….really looking forward to seeing Glaze!!!

Also, UNLV has made the tournament since 2000. UNLV made the Sweet 16 three years ago, and made the tournament again the next year (2007) and won their first game before losing to eventual champions Kansas.

Good read on the Rebels latest signing. There is a lot to be excited about with Grandy. However, you are mistaken with your UNLV knowledge. The Rebels have made the NCAA tournament 3 of the last 4 years, with a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2007.

    Just a little FYI.
Rebels went to the Sweet 16 in 2007 and they made it to the second round in 2008. This is their 3rd trip in 4 years.
Other than that, I am excited about this pickup.
