Negus Webster-Chan Ready To Show His Versatility on the AAU Circuit

Posted on 12. Apr, 2010 by Nolan Shulman in Canada Spotlight, High School

While watching the Bounce 16's win the Scarborough Blues OBA tournament this weekend, one couldn't help but notice the versatility of 6-7 point-forward Negus Webster-Chan.  There isn't much Negus can't do on a basketball court.   While he's certainly a capable scorer,  it's his ability to distribute that makes him standout.   Bounce 16's are currently having Negus operate out of the high post, but he views himself transitioning into a full time point guard.  "There aren't many 6-7 guys who can bring the ball up the court and play point" says Webster-Chan.  " I can shoot the three, I can make it from mid range, I can drive, and I like to create for my teammates."

While he's not well known amongst American message board users or any of the top recruiting analysts as of yet, big name programs have already begun to take notice.  Just a 2012 prospect, Negus is currently drawing interest from Washington, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Syracuse, Baylor, Virginia, UNLV, and Nebraska to name a few.  Interest should start to grow even more as Negus will compete with Bounce 16's in many prestigious and heavily scouted events in the United States this summer.  First on the list is next weekend's Pitt Jam Fest.

Negus is also looking at his prep school options for next season and will likely garner interest from many of  America's heavy hitters.  With Canadians currently achieving an enormous amount of success south of the border, there's no reason to believe Negus won't continue the tradition.

Like Negus said himself, there aren't too many 6-7 point guards in the class of 2012 with his ability to distribute.  We can attest that in our many travels down south,  we haven't seen any !!!
