The AAU season may be winding down for most, but for 2013 combo guard Duane Notice, it's just begun. The youngest player on the Canadian Cadet team that won Bronze in Germany, Duane has been a household name in Canada for quite some time. However, despite being Flagrant Fouls #1 Canadian in the Class of 2013, most scouting services and college coaches in the United States have never heard of Duane. That's about to change !!!
Competing on the AAU circuit for the first time in his career, Duane led his BJC Magic squad to a 20 point victory. Santa Clara, New Mexico State, and Stoneybrook were on hand to take in the action and all had to be impressed with what they saw. It took Duane about 10 minutes to get into the rhythm of the game, but once he did, he demonstrated many of the traits that will make him a desirable recruiting target. Right now his biggest strength is his ability to get in the gaps and willingness to attack the rim. His ability to absorb contact and finish is a direct result of his outstanding strength and impressive body control. While he's still transitioning into a full time point guard, Duane has begun to take steps towards accomplishing that goal. "I had to change my game up a little bit. Before I used to be mainly a scorer but after playing with the Cadet team in Germany, the coaches wanted me to be more of a pass first point guard. I just want to come to this team with that same kind of attitude. I thought I did ok. I was trying not to force and just take open shots….but I still need to work on my shot selection a little more" said a humble Duane after the win.
The Cadet experience seemed to be a very positive and enjoyable experience for nearly everyone I've talked to since they returned. Duane is no exception. "It was an amazing experience. From the opening ceremonies we were already all winners. Just making the team and being down there, we felt we had nothing to lose. The fact that we medaled was a great achievement and something that will stick with us the rest of our lives."
With the Cadet experience behind him, Duane is now focused on playing great this week in Las Vegas. He's hoping to get some exposure and impress some coaches. "The recruiting business is still new to me. That's why coach wants me to be on the AAU circuit. Next year I'll probably be out here way more, but I'm just happy to be getting some exposure. As Canadians that's what we need since we don't get that much exposure at home. I'm just happy to be out here and have coaches see me play. I'm just going to do my best" says Duane.
So far Duane has heard from Syracuse, Gonzaga, Santa Clara, and Arizona. I'm pretty confident that as more coaches see him play, Duane won't be new to the recruiting business for long.
Check out Duane and his Toronto BJC Magic squad today at 5:00pm in Clark High School, Main Floor.

Forgot about Andrew Wiggins who is a 2014 prospect. He was youngest member of Canadian Cadet team.
Duane was not the youngest on the Cadet team Andrew Wiggins was.
Corrected that 5 minutes after I posted the story. Forgot about my man Andrew !!!!!
Duane was not the youngest on the cadet team, Andrew Wiggins was.
