Kevin Thomas Becomes 4th Canadian in Two Years to Commit to Texas

Posted on 10. Mar, 2011 by Nolan Shulman in Canada Spotlight, High School, Interviews

After closely monitoring the success former teammates Tristan Thompson and Cory Joseph have had as Longhorns, Kevin Thomas has decided to follow in their footsteps and will join them at Texas next season.   Coach Rick Barnes is locked in north of the border as Thomas becomes the 4th Canadian to pledge to the Burnt Orange in the last two years.  Also a member of the Longhorns 2011 recruiting class is Findlay Prep point guard Myck Kabongo, who's also KT's AAU teammate.

According to Ro Russell who coaches Kevin both at CFCA in North Carolina and on the summer circuit with Grassroots Canada, "Kevin started to become more and more interested as they started to recruit him.  He had two assistant coaches and head coach Rick Barnes come see him play.  He had been speaking to Tristan and Cory who gave him a great report on the program.  With forwards leaving due to graduation and possibly the NBA, he visited them with his family and they were all convinced it was the perfect spot for him.

Kevin is a great pickup for the Longhorns.  He's a hybrid forward with tremendous athleticism and versatility.  He is outstanding in the open court and can really finish at the rim. He can also shoot it, make plays off the bounce facing the basket, and is capable of guarding multiple positions.
