CFCA’s Davis gets California Love

Posted on 24. May, 2011 by Barry Hayes in Canada Spotlight, High School

With his second year at the helm complete, Christian Faith Center Academy head coach Ro Russell is saying goodbye to several seniors that moved with him from Canada to the Creedmoor, North Carolina campus. They will now move on to the next level. One of those young men is 6’4” 180-pound Ben Davis, who recently signed an NCAA Division 1 Letter-of-Intent with California State University at Bakersfield for this fall.

He gives them a long athletic shooter with some toughness,” said Russell, who also coached Davis during past AAU seasons with Grassroots Canada.

While he’s a proven shooter, Davis’ length and quickness also makes him a strong defensive option. A former student at The Woodlands School in Mississauga, Ontario & member of the Mississauga Monarchs’ OBA championship teams, Davis opted for the US prep route to finish out his high school career. His last two years have been with Christian Faith Center Academy, a team loaded with GTA talent.

He was a starter for most of the AAU season, averaging 15 (points) and 5 (rebounds) per game,” added Russell. “At CFCA, he was the first off the bench and was the team’s best 3-point shooter, averaging 10 (points) and 4 (rebounds) per game.

Davis chose the Runners over Marist and Louisiana-Lafayette. As he enters Cal State-Bakersfield this fall, another former Grassroots Canada player is transferring out. 5’10” point guard Alex Johnson (Toronto, ON/Vaughan Road ’07) has committed to complete his final year of eligibility at NC State while pursuing a Master’s degree.
