A top 3 player in the class of 2010, Barnes certainly looked the part on day 1. Harrison did a little bit of everything out on the floor. He rebounded on both ends of the floor, got to the line, made some jumpers, and most importantly led his team to victory. He had a chance to ice the game with two free throws, but only connected on one. Luckily for Team Michigan State, Connecticut couldn’t get a three point shot off. The one thing Harrison seems to be lacking is elite athleticism. He had his shot blocked a few times underneath, and doesn’t seem to be able to take faster defenders off the bounce. He more than makes up for it with his sound fundamentals, great movement away from the ball, and high basketball IQ.
Barnes spent the afternoon playing his usual role of top dog in the gym. He was vocal, demonstrated leadership, and was clearly the best player on the floor. Harrison uses his extremely high basketball IQ to make the right play most of the time. He’s polished, plays under control, has a tremendous mid range game, and also showed the ability to stick the three point shot. He doesn’t yet have the quickness to be an effective slasher, however he’s always alert, cuts with a purpose, and seems to be shot ready when the ball is being either swung or taken to the the tin. Harrison is undecided on his college destination as of now, however, Duke, Kansas, Florida, North Carolina, and Iowa State seem to be at the top of his list.
