The Syracuse-bound Carter-Williams was the best player of the day it is not even a question. A slender combo guard, Carter-Williams poured in 44 (10/20 FG, 4/10 3P, 20/24 FT) of his team’s 68 points, good for 64.7% of the total. BABC beat the Georgia Stars 68-60 in overtime, and only was able to get there because MCW knocked down a halfcourt buzzer beater at the end of regulation. Carter-Williams was outstanding at the line and got there time and time again. He did have 7 turnovers and just 1 assist, but grabbed 9 rebounds. This was by far the best I have seen Carter-Williams play, as he showcased a complete offensive game as well as leadership abilities.
Known primarily as a shoot first scoring point guard, Michael showed terrific vision in the lane this morning. He got in the gaps, drew the defense, then shocked the world by hitting the cutter for an easy deuce. While I think Michael is a terrific player, I wasn't sold on him as a point guard. Today he took a step in making me a believer that he may be capable of blossoming into a full time floor general. I need to see more, but I thought he was terrrific today.
Michael has excellent size for a point guard and should rise in the rankings as his body fills out. His body is still a work in progress as he could still grow an inch or two. During the drill work he was having a difficult time finishing with contact and was often pushed around in the two on two live action. What Michael does have is great instincts and understanding for the position. He runs the floor well, distributes to the open teammate, has a quick first step, and plays unselfishly. He also has a pretty nice jump shot that seemed to fall quite often during the drill work. Once game action started Michael’s game picked up. He was strong with the ball, rarely turning it over, and did a nice job scoring the ball and being aggressive. Playing alongside Cooney and Coleman, Michael could have done a better job facilitating and making sure those guys got the ball in a position to be effective. When you have a guy like Coleman underneath, it’s the point guards responsibility to make sure the post is being fed. Overall I think Carter-Williams is an intriguing prospect with a lot of upside. He could emerge as a top 15 point guard in 2011 when all is said and done.
