Coming into the Clemson matchup, Derrick Favors had alredy posted 8 double doubles on the season. Tonight, Favors earned his ninth in a coming out party of sorts. Derrick had been been shooting 59% on his field goal attempts on the season but has only been averaging shy of 12ppg. Part of this has been due to his 26 mins per game average in addition to deffering to his senior teammate Gani Lawal. Lawal got into foul trouble early and Derrick took charge on both ends of the court using his unique combination of power and quickness. Favors has a prowness for rebounding that can't be taught. Battling with Trevor Booker down low he pulled 14 boards with six on the offensive end. Favors did a very admiral job fronting Booker in the post and forced him to the perimeter to get the ball on offense. Derrick was active on defense all game collecting three blocks and even stepping out to flash on the perimeter off of picks. Favors ran the floor to lead the Georgia Tech fast paced offense and provided a huge target for his guards finishing three alleyoops in transition. As Derrick learns to be more assertive, he will spend more time on the free throw line, where he was a dismal 1-5 tonight. Tonight's performance only confirmed that Favors is almost certain to be a one and done candidate.
