Hayward did nothing but impress me tonight against a hard nosed defensive minded Hoyas team. Hayward is a tough match up in the college game as he has great length and even better shooting range. The entire Butler offense revolves around Hayward and he is quite the creative scorer. Gordon scored tonight coming around screens and off the dribble. It is clear that Hayward needs to add strength to his skinny frame in order to excel at the next level. Tonight, he fought for position and was in the right place at the right times. Hayward battled Austin Freeman and while Freeman appears to be much more physical, Hayward didn’t fall short in the rebounding category. At the end of the day, Hayward can score from anywhere and is a threat once he crosses half court. Reminded me tonight of a young Mike Dunleavy back in his Duke days. The athleticism doesn’t dazzle but his shot making ability and IQ are unparalleled.
