Monroe seems to have come alive at this years BET. He's put his entire arsenal on display this week. He's made plays from the low post, gotten to the rim off the dribble, demonstrated his superb ability to pass, attacked the glass, and defended multiple positions. Simply put, there is nothing Monroe hasn't done this week at the Mecca. We've spoke to some scouts who all came away very impressed, and he'll be elevated in our next mock draft. Georgetown hasn't lit up the Gardens like they did a few years ago with Greene, Hibbert, and Wallace, but Monroe has taken the torch and run with it. He dominated Lazar Hayward last night, holding him to 5-16 shooting and limiting him to just 3 rebounds. Offensively Monroe went for 23 points on 9-15 while pulling in 13 rebounds, handing out 7 assists, and blocking 2 shots. It was the most impressive game all week (sorry Jamine).
Greg is by far the best passing big man in the country. Not only can he pass facing the basket but he can distribute from the post as well. He draws the double team than waits for the cutters going back door. Noone in the country executes this better than the Hoyas. Greg handed out 7 assists in the contest, most of which came late with the game on the line. It was clear when the Hoyas needed a hoop the offense goes through Greg. He didn't shoot much (8 attempts) but he did connect on 5 of them. He also had active hands (3 steals) and got to the line 8 times. Greg has solidified himself as a top 10 pick and should be able to contribute immediately do to his versatility as both a scorer and passer.
Tonight was the coming out party for Greg Monroe with respect to NBA scouts. Greg finally took matters into his own hands and played possessed while showing a mean streak. The knock on Monroe has always been that Greg doesn’t demand the ball and at times plays too unselfish. Greg took 20 shot attempts tonight and I was very impressed with his shot selection. When Monroe is the focal point of the offense for Georgetown the team usually comes out on the right side of the win column. Tonight was no different. Monroe used his body to shield position and make it easy on his guards to feed him in the post. He was a matchup nightmare for Butler all night. Greg grabbed 15 rebounds, 4 of them offensive and controlled the rim. Greg showed nimble footwork and an array of post moves leaving defenders in the dark. Games like tonight are what warrant a top five selection on draft night.
