Johnson got off to a very hot start, scoring the cuse's first 5 points. He is such an effortless shooter and with his elevation, he's impossible to contest. He's struggle with his shot of late (he's been hampered by a hand injury), but he made 10-17 shots and 3-5 from deep. He's got a quick release, near perfect mechanics, and great size for an NBA three. The only thing holding Johnson back is his inability to put the ball on the deck. His lack of of handles takes his ability to drive out of the equation and allows defenders to play him closer. He's a lock to go top 10 and how he develops his ability to put it on the deck at the next level will likely dictate how effective he'll be.
Wesley Johnson once again put up enormous stats in the flow of the offense. He showed off his superior efficiency conncecting on 9-15 field goals. Johnson made mid range jump shots, finished in the lane, and routinely executed in the high low with teammate Rick Jackson. Johnson's length and athleticism proved to be too much for the Golden Eagles and Johnson dominated the defensive glass. Johnson is an elite talent who's only weakness looks to be his ball-handling. He is an elite small forward prospect and the standard in which all other small forwards in the 2010 draft will be measured.
22 PTS, 15 REB, 9-15 FG, 2 STL, 6 TO
Wes Johnson's performance tonight only better positions himself for National Player of the Year. The dynamic transfer was everywhere in the second half going for 13 pts and 12 rebounds. This was right about the time Syracuse shifted gears and left Seton Hall behind. Wesley controlled the game on defense by owning the glass. Johnson secured 19 rebounds with 8 of them on the offensive glass. Seton Hall got few second chance points as Johnson was grabbing the rebounds at their highest point. With such a focus on rebounding it was amazing to see him block five shots. Offensively, Seton Hall just couldn't match up. Wes' first step was unstoppable and when the Seton Hall defenders backed off, Johnson beat them from the perimeter. I can't remember how many breaks started with a Johnson rebound on the defensive end and finishing with one of his slam dunks on the offensive end.
40 MINS, 8-16 FG, 19 REB, 5 BLK, 20 PTS
Johnson saved his breakout performance for the biggest stage. Under the bright lights of the Mecca, and playing the defending Champions, Johnson showed the kind of versatile and unselfish player he is. He scored from long distance, from mid range, off the bounce, and on the offensive glass. He has crazy hops, a terrific wingspan, and great energy. Everything coach Boeheim has been saying throughout the off-season has been bang on. He's a rare offensive talent on the wing and should rapidly climb up the draft board if he continues to have performances like this.
