The newest member of Lake Forest Academy, Tyler displayed an improved first step. He was already known as a guy with terrific feel and the ability to score buckets… All he lacked was explosion off the bounce. Over the last month Tyler has proved that he's becoming a better athelte and more explosive off the bounce. Combine that with the tangibles he already possessed and he's going to be a problem for the next few years in Chicago.
Tyler was sensational in the one game we saw him play in Morgantown. He errupted for 36 points in a matchup with Team Melo 15's. He was tremendous coming off ball screens; connecting on shots from mid range, deep three's, and getting to the basket. He scored baskets to keep his team in the game when they needed a lift, did a good job stopping the ball defensively, and was poised down the stretch. If you follow our website you know that we're very high on Tyler as a prospect and this might have been the most impressive game I've seen him play.
Tyler is a steady lead guard and very capable outside shooter. He’s a willing passer, outstanding (yet streaky) shooter, and did a great job feeding the post. The thing I like about Tyler is that he can be effective in any type of game. If it’s an up tempo game he can push, if it’s a slug fest, he can do that too. The one thing Tyler needs to do to take the next step is become more explosive off the bounce and spend more time in the paint. If he can take the ball into the heart of the defense more often, he could become special.
Tyler is a tripple threat out on the basketball court. He can shoot it, he can take his man off the bouce, and he can distribute. It wasn't Tyler's day shooting the basketball, but he still found a way to impact the game. He's got such great vision and court awareness and he put it on display tonight. Tyler is an outstanding passer in the lane and found his teammates for countless easy opportunities after continuously drawing the helpside defender. Tanveer Bhullar and Jordan Robinson were the beneficiaries, and did a nice job finishing at the rim. I expect Tyler to make his three's throughout the rest of this tournament, and that should open up even more opportunities for him to make plays in the paint.
Tyler put his passing on display, recording a game high 13 assists and initiating the Carr transition game. He made no look drop offs, on the money lead passes, and found his teammates open for three when pentrating the lane. He showed his versatility as a point guard by also scoring 22 points and demonstrating an ability to finish at the rim and an improved deep ball. His three point shot is still a work in progress, but he did connect on some deep triples both with his feet set and pulling up. Simply put, he was the engine of the Carr juniors all season long and he didn't dissapoint when the lights shinned brightest.
Tyler continues to dominate junior basketball in the city of Toronto. He has led the Carr juniors to a 31-0 record thus far and is the best young point guard prospect in the city. He can lead a team both by running half court sets or pushing the ball in transition. What makes Tyler special is his composure on the court. The game looks like it's moving so slowly for him, which is extremely impressive for such a young man. As his jump shot becomes more consistent and he ads more strength to his frame, Tyler should continue the tradition of outstanding floor generals to come out of Toronto.
