Kemba didn’t quite outduel John Wall but showed a ton of fire. Scouts left Madison Square Garden impressed and many of the questions surrounding Kemba playing the point position at the next level were addressed. At no point, did Kemba back down from Wall and the intensity was felt throughout the building. Kemba did a great job running the team tonight. He finished with 6 assists and found a little offense of his own. Kemba uses his speed and creativity to get to the rim. Kemba needs to work on finishing when traffic presents itself, but nonetheless, isn’t afraid to draw contact. Walker’s jumper doesn’t scare anyone but his speed affords him lots of space to get it off. Kemba was the engine of the team tonight on defense. He was active, vocal and made a heck of a play to get back and break up a John Wall layout without committing a foul. If Kemba can perform like tonight consistently throughout the Big East schedule, I would expect him to rise on draft boards.

One of the big questions about Kemba’s game coming into tonight was whether he could be a traditional pass first point guard. Walker played a nice game but I am not sure Colgate gave enough of a challenge for us to determine whether Kemba can play point at the next level. Kemba was very effective using the hesitation dribble to create offense for others and his speed is as fast as advertised. Walker displayed nice vision by being able to see gaps in the zone and penetrate effectively creating scoring opportunities. That said, I thought he was a spotty finisher near the rim when traffic was nearby. In time, as Walker learns to play the point, he will better learn when to draw the foul with his body and when to shield and protect himself to better finish plays.
