Vikes add Ontario recruit Higgins

As they look to replace 7 key players from their current roster that are set to graduate after this season (4) and 2011-12 (3), University of Victoria (“UVic”) head coach Craig Beaucamp and his staff are working very hard on the recruiting trail. The Vikes are beginning to break through, having successfully lured 6’4” wing Ryan Higgins (Guelph, ON/St. James) to Vancouver Island.

UVic was my top choice because of the role (the coaching staff) are planning for me on the court,” said Higgins. “They also have the business program I want. The school is in a great location and the atmosphere for basketball there is amazing. I'm mostly looking forward to just keep having opportunities to compete. They are in a really strong league, so I know every game I play, I will have to bring nothing but my ‘A’ game.”

Higgins is ranked #50 in the country from the current Class of 2011 player rankings. With his size and capability to play multiple positions, the Vikes are looking forward to the roles he can play in the future.

At 6’4” and athletic, Ryan brings us some versatility to the guard position,” said Beaucamp. “We are excited to see him become a good player in our league.”

Higgins leads St. James into this weekend’s CWOSSAA qualifier for a place in OFSAA’s AAA championship tournament in Niagara Falls (March 7-9).
