Justin Time for Christmas at Carleton

Posted on 21. Dec, 2010 by Barry Hayes in Canada Spotlight, High School, Interviews

While all the NCAA Division 1 signings have been documented already, Canadian university (“CIS”) basketball commitments are beginning to surface. Perennial national championship contenders, Carleton University, have secured a top 10 player in the Class of 2011.

He’s exactly what we need,” said Carleton head coach Dave Smart about his newest commitment - 6’6” 230-pound power forward Justin Shaver. “His toughness and his ability as a ‘big’ to handle the ball gives us some similar options that we had with (former OUA All-Star forwards) Josh Poirier and Aaron Doornekamp.”

Justin is an old-school bruiser in the post and has among the most polished back-to-the-basket offensive arsenals in the entire Class. He has been a major component in the impressive Ottawa Guardsmen club teams over the years, including the reigning Under-19 OBA champions. He was also the starting post player for Team Ontario at the 2009 Canada Summer Games in Summerside, PEI.

After four years at Nepean High School in Ottawa, Justin has moved further west to John McCrae Secondary for his final year. Carleton University (Ottawa, ON) have been to the last 8 CIS National tournaments, winning six. They are currently the #1-ranked team in the CIS.

We hope he develops to be as talented as those two were and we think he has a chance to do so.”
