Humber All-Star Heads West

Head coach Craig Beaucamp has secured another impressive Ontario talent as the University of Victoria Vikes announced that Humber College transfer Michael Acheampong (Toronto, ON/Martingrove ’08) has committed for next season. The 6’2” guard will have two years of CIS eligibility remaining.

“Michael will be adding another dimension to our team,” said Beaucamp. “He has huge athleticism and can really defend on the ball. It’s impressive to see a guard leading his team in both scoring (14.5 ppg) and rebounding (6.1 rpg).”

Michael has consistently improved his offensive output since he began as a freshman in the fall of 2008. Already known as a talented rookie, his performance at the OCAA Tournament that season was jaw dropping. He shot an incredible 18-for-21 from the field for 42 points combined in the Hawks’ semifinal and final games, helping win an Ontario College championship. He has really made an effort to mature both physically and mentally.

This past summer, he worked real hard in the weight room to add the strength he will need at the next level,” said Humber head coach Shawn Collins.

“His athleticism combined with his work ethic will play at the next level. He also has a great mid-range game, which is something that is lost in today’s game.”

Acheampong was just named an OUA West First Team All-Star last night at the OCAA Tournament banquet in Sault Ste. Marie. With him the past two years, the Hawks have qualified for the Canadian College (CCAA) championship tournament. Can he help make it three-for-three? Follow the OCAA tournament here.
