Lenny Austin Has Lots To Celebrate: Vanier Guard Commits to North Dakota

Posted on 19. Apr, 2011 by Nolan Shulman in Canada Spotlight, High School, Interviews

When it rains it pours !!  After surprising many and leading Vanier to a CCAA Championship just a few weeks back, Lenny Austin has even better news today.  The Quebec native has committed to the Division 1 North Dakota FightingSioux .

According to Lenny,  "I had a great bond with the players.  The coach wanted another guard to come in and after visiting this weekend, I thought it was a great fit."  Lenny visited campus Thursday and was highly impressed with what he saw.  "I went on campus, went into all the buildings, met with the coaches, saw the dorms, and got to know the guys."

The two biggest factors in his decision was his comfort level with the coaches and his bond with the players.  "Coach Philippe is from Montreal and we had a great bond.  Right away I could relate to him and they've been recruiting me since day one. That was important.  Coach Nate was at my first game of the season and let me know that he liked my game and was planning on tracking me.  Him and the head coach came to watch my game, met with me and my family, and asked me to come visit.  Once I did I knew it was where I wanted to play," said a fired up Lenny.

Lenny plans on taking Business Administration as his major while studying at North Dakota.  He visited the Business Admin building and was very impressed.

When I asked him how he and his teammates celebrated their huge championship upset, he responded by saying he hasn't had time.  "Winning the CCAA was such a great experience.  It was my first time playing in a National Championship tournament.  Going up against Bol Kong and all the other great players didn't really intimidate me as I've had great experience playing AAU against some great players.  I had to go out and do what I'm supposed to do.  Play hard, come out hungry, and show them what we've got in Quebec.  It was great experience.  We haven't had time to really celebrate yet. We'll wait until after school because we've got a lot of work to do.  After it's done we'll celebrate the right way."

Now that he's found a home to take his game to the next level, Lenny's going to have a lot to celebrate.  Check out these highlights of Lenny's game, courtesy of our friends at KEEHS PRODUCTION.
