Trio make commitments to U of T

Posted on 03. Jun, 2011 by Barry Hayes in Canada Spotlight

After a strong 2nd place OUA East regular season finish, in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year, the University of Toronto are building towards even better results for next year. Head coach Mike Katz has successfully landed two transfers and a local high school talent to give them more depth and experience.

We are excited to announce the commitment of these three young athletes,” said Katz. “They all have a strong work ethic and a commitment to taking their game to the next level. They should provide us with some depth at their position and hopefully contribute right away.”

Denis Ankrah 6’4” SF, Silverthorn (Toronto, ON)

Laszlo Schuetz 6’5” PF, Langara College (CCAA)

After four years (one as a redshirt) at Hillsdale College, an NCAA Division 2 school in Michigan, Ryan Robinet (Windsor, ON/Riverside ’07) has two years of eligibility remaining.

Assistant coach Mike De Giorgio: “Ryan is coming off a torn ACL in March, but has been working hard to rehab and will most likely be ready to contribute at some point this season. He’s a strong athletic guard that can guard the ball and provide some 3-point shooting.”

Denis Ankrah made his commitment less than a week after his U19 club, Baller Sports, captured the Division 2 Gold medal at the OBA championships in Kitchener.

Assistant coach Mike De Giorgio: “Denis is a long athletic wing that can rebound the ball and block shots. He gives us an upgrade athletically and should provide us with a spark off the bench.”

Originally from Germany, Laszlo Schuetz adds depth to the Varsity Blues’ frontcourt after spending two seasons at Langara College in Vancouver.

Assistant coach Mike De Giorgio: “Laszlo is a big body that has potential to develop into a steady post player. He rebounds the ball and finishes well inside.”
