Evans re-opens recruitment

Posted on 31. May, 2011 by Barry Hayes in Canada Spotlight, High School

In a graduating class lacking depth at the centre position, one just came back on the market, as Ryan Evans has re-opened his recruitment.

Just to let you know, I de-committed from Ryerson (University) last week,” said Evans on Sunday.

I’m not sure yet what I’m going to do in the fall. I might look for some prep school options.”

Evans (Ottawa, ON/Earl of March) is a 6’10” centre with a big wingspan that demonstrates a good shooting stroke and accurate passing out of the post, while causing disruptions for shooters as a defender patrolling the paint. Ryerson head coach Roy Rana had previous experience coaching Ryan on the U15 Cadet National team in 2009 prior to his commitment to become a Ram in January. Last summer, Ryan received a Silver medal at the National Championships as the starting centre for Team Ontario.

We will continue to support and hope he is a Ram in the 2012 season,” said Rana, who noted Ryan had not been admitted into Ryerson at the time of his decision.

We completely understand and support his decision to explore all options moving forward.”

Evans is fresh off a Gold medal received at the Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) U19 championships in Kitchener-Waterloo playing for the Ottawa Guardsmen this past weekend.
