Cameron Smythe Has Interest At All Levels

Posted on 18. Jul, 2011 by AidenSargentWC in Canada Spotlight

Cameron Smythe is a long, lean 6-11 centre who in the winter plays his high school basketball for the Sir Charles Tupper Tigers in Vancouver. Currently, he is playing on the summer circuit with Basketball BC’s U17 Provincial Team, competing in AAU tournaments South of the border.

“Basketball BC’s Provincial teams have helped my game and gotten me exposure down South. I have learned a lot from my coaches in this program,” said Smythe.

So far that exposure has resulted in interest from schools such as Siena (D1), Bemidji State (D2), Simon Fraser (D2), British Columbia (CIS), and Trinity Western (CIS).

Smythe has a lot of upside and brings many good things to the floor.  Obviously his length stands out, but he also possesses pretty good touch, the ability to face the basket and connect from mid range, and improving leadership qualities. He really does a great job communicating on the floor and is the quarterback of the defense.  I recently saw Cam at the NW Premier Showcase and came away very impressed.

In the future, Smythe wants to help his Tigers “…win the school’s third Vancouver City Championship, their first Lower Mainland Championship, and their first Provincial Championship.” He also plans on playing post-secondary basketball in Canada or the United States, with the hopes that an opportunity to play professionally presents itself after that.  He's got a long way to go to reach his ultimate goal, but he's certainly on the right track.
