Nick was sensational in the game I took in on the first day of camp. He made three's, got his hands in the passing lanes, proved he can finish at the rim in traffic, and even did some damage off the bounce. His improved athleticism has surprised me to the point where I need to completely re-evaluate him as a prospect. Nick really has a chance if he continues to develop at the rate we've seen this summer.
Nick showed more explosiveness as an athlete than he has throughout the course of the summer. He was bouncy, did a great job finishing in transition, and provided a spark off the bench. He is instant offense off the bench and was instrumental in TTC winning a few early games. His shot wasn't falling at the rate I've seen in the past and his form seems to have changed a bit. When he finds his shot and adds it to his improvements going to the tin, he's going to be a more complete player than ever before.
It wasn't Nick's best week shooting the basketball, but he found a way to contribute in other ways. He was sound on defense, staying in front of his man, and doing a nice job locating and closing out on shooters. He also did a nice job feeding the post and staying under control, rarely turning it over. He isn't a full time point guard yet, but certainly has the poise and basketball IQ to become one. Generally Nick is a guy who can really shoot the basketball, which opens up opportunities to get in the lane. With his shot not falling, defenders gave him more room and those opportunities weren't always there this week. Look for Nick to make those looks next week in Akron, and put his full game on display.
