Stingers buzzing after Vanier star commits

Posted on 07. Apr, 2011 by Barry Hayes in Canada Spotlight, High School

Vanier College guard Jerome Blake put up incredible performances in two championship games in March, leading the Cheetahs to both the Provincial & National titles. Now he’s ready to do the same for head coach John Dore and his staff, as he recently committed to stay close to home and suit up for Concordia University in Montreal.

We are very excited about Jerome committing to the Concordia Stingers,” said Concordia assistant coach David Bloom. “Jerome has a great ability to score in many different ways. He is an excellent athlete who rebounds and gets after it defensively.”

Named a RSEQ Second Team All-Star after the regular season, the 5'11" Jerome put on a performance that will go down among the best in CEGEP playoff history, scoring an incredible 41 points in a tight 86-82 victory over Sainte-Foy in the final, advancing them to the National (CCAA) tournament in Oshawa, Ontario. As the underdog in each of their three games at CCAA’s, Vanier crapped and clawed their way to victory, with Jerome’s performance growing stronger with each win. It culminated in a game-high 32 points in the final (102-85 over Lethbridge College) to win Tournament MVP honours and finish his collegiate career on top.

His experiences in winning a CCAA national championship with Vanier College will be a great addition to our program. We look forward to Jerome being in a Stingers uniform next season,” added Bloom.

The Stingers also have 6’5” forward Kyle Mayers (Hamilton, ON/Cathedral ’07) on board for next year. Kyle spent a year at South Kent Prep in Connecticut before spending two years at UMass-Lowell, an NCAA Division 2 team. He will have four years of CIS eligibility.
