Canucks @ Nike EYBL/Boo Williams Invitational: Day One

Posted on 09. Apr, 2011 by Nolan Shulman in Canada Spotlight, High School, Media, Tournaments, Videos

Hampton, VA - It was an exciting first day at the Boo Williams Sports Complex, as we were fortunate enough to take in 39 Canadians beat up on their American counterparts.   The day started with CIA Bounce 16u laying the smack down on Team Texas by more than 30 points and we never looked back.  Here's a look at who stood out !!

17u

Anthony Bennett (6-8, PF, 2012)

With the #1 player in America (Julius Randle) covering him, Anthony didn't care.  No one was going to prevent him from getting to the cup.  He proved he can put it on the deck and finish with authority; both in the half court and on the break.  His improved jump shot has given guys a reason to play him tighter and Anthony has made them pay by using the fake to get to the rim.

Dyshawn Pierre (6-6, F, 2012)

His game isn't pretty and I'm not sure what position he plays, but every time we watch Dyshawn he just flat out gets it done.  He makes plays in the paint, can guard multiple positions, and while his jumper is pretty darn awkward, it's very effective.

Naz Long (6-2, G, 2012)

Not sure anyone came into AAU season with more to prove than Naz Long.  He's improved so much as a player but didn't get as much burn as he would have liked down in Las Vegas. He handled it like a pro and proved he's a phenominal teammate, but now that the minutes are there, he knows it's his time to shine.  His ball pressure was really impressive as was his ability to knock down shots and handle the basketball.  This is the second summer in a row that he's improved in dramatic fashion and as always he brought CIA Bounce extreme energy, hustle, and communication.

Andrew Wiggins (6-7, F, 2014)

As the youngest player ona CIA Bounce team of high major prospects, Andrew did not look out of place for one second.  Defensively he did a tremendous job of guarding Julius Randle and exposed him quite a bit to those in attendance.  He uses his length and quick feet to guard any position on the floor.  Offensively he let the game come to him, made two 3's, and attacked the rim in transition.

16u

Tyler Ennis (6-2, PG, 2013)

Is there anyone smoother and more under control than Tyler ??  He makes everyone around him better, rarely if ever turns it over, always makes good decisions, and can get buckets when he feels like it.  He is the undisputed leader of Bounce 16u and led them to a 30 point blowout win over Team Texas.

RJ Curington (6-5, SF, 2013)

In his first game running with CIA Bounce, RJ scored 11 points off the bench in his first 4 minutes.  He has an old man's game, but quietly gets the job done.  He rebounds, runs the floor, finishes at the rim, and lets the game come to him.  He's a terrific addition to the squad and is a guy who won't hunt shots or disrupt the teams chemistry.

15u

Tyrell Belot-Green (6-5, F, 2013)

We didn't arrive to the 15u Bounce game till just after half, but it was long enough to see TBG put in work.  He made a hard drive to the bucket for the go ahead bucket with 3.3 seconds to go, but unfortunately the young guns couldn't hold on.  He was aggressive, always in the right place at the right time, and looked to be moving his feet a little better defensively in the paint.

Notes

* Quebec native and New Hampton point guard, Olivier Hanlan is running with the Albany City Rocks.  He might have the easiest job of any point guard in the deal.  Give Dajuan Coleman the ball and get the $%&^ out of the way.

*Jonathon Tshibuy is running with Team Takeover DC … He played as hard as anyone in the gym and fits the mold of a Takeover player.  Competes, scraps, and takes the game personal.

* I went to watch the Grassroots 16u team at 9pm but unfortunately the game was cancelled.  Not sure what happened but the gym was locked up when I got there.  We will take them in vs. Southern Kings 16's at 8am.  Matthew Atewe will be running with the Kings.
