Andrew was as efficient yesterday as I've seen him all season. He had his first 14 points on just 5 shots and certainly came out ready to play for Vaughan's 10am game. He made 4 three's early, and used his length and outstanding lateral speed to disrupt and make life difficult for Shakele. With Vaughan up huge in the second half, Andrew and the rest of his teammates had it one cruise control a bit. Didn't matter. We saw all we needed to see in the first half.
s an athlete, Andrew is a freak of nature. His ability to elevate is outstanding, but it's his second jump that allows him to dominate the offensive glass. He was absolutely outstanding blocking shots and contesting shots this week. He displayed decent timing, big time length, and the ability to elevate quickly. He used those strengths to record double digit blocks in the championship game. Offensively he uses his patent spin move and killer crossover to create space. The one area Andrew clearly struggled with this weekend was in his abiity to finish at the rim. He needed a second a third effort on multiple occasions and didn't finish plays he would normally bring fans out of their seats with. If Andrew begins to play hard every possession and fixes his quirky jumper, he has a chance to live up to the lofty expectations that have been placed on him.
The anticipated tournament debut of the 15-year-old phenom spoiled Canadian fans in attendance. His explosive athleticism is rarely seen in a high school setting in any country. Anyone witnessing his one-handed putback dunk in his first game against JCR can attest to that. Andrew showed him some of his face-up game, using crossovers to make defenders look like pylons, while finishing it off with his head at the rim. His presence was missed in short periods against JCR, as the Storm went on runs to keep within striking distance. Once re-inserted, he drew enough attention to give his teammates a chance to widen the gap and hang on for the win, which they ended up doing. One long-time scout suggested Andrew is the best basketball athlete in Toronto history. He is worth any price of admission, but will his games have to move to bigger sites? The overflowing crowds will continue to get bigger as the word spreads
