Kyle Wiltjer Playing Canada U18’s, Holds 10 High Major Offers

Posted on 03. Jun, 2010 by Nolan Shulman in Canada Spotlight, High School, Interviews

The FIBA World Championships in San Antonio are quickly approaching and Team Canada 18u will be relying on Oakland Soldiers power forward Kyle Wiltjer to provide them with quality minutes. “I’m really looking forward to the world play. Playing in International competition under FIBA rules is going to be a new spin on basketball for me. I played with Tristan, Cory, and Myck in the Global challenge and really enjoyed myself, so I wanted to move forward with it. We have a very talented group and I think we can be really competitive.” said Kyle last weekend at the EYBL in L.A.

Kyle is currently playing on the Nike summer circuit with the Oakland Soldiers.  "I really like the new setup of the EYBL.  I think every game matters, so it's been a fun summer so far." said Kyle.  His team is loaded with talent and they are currently getting it done in the win column.  Playing with Jabari Brown, Nick Johnson, Kiwi Gardner, and Brandon Ashley, they have an excellent chance to win Peach Jam.  "The EYBL is our main focus.  We're playing great basketball right now and we're on pace to make it into Peach Jam, so we're just looking to improve and make sure we're peaking for Peach Jam.  We want to win it so bad."

When I asked Kyle about his recruitment he told me he's taking his time with it and just enjoying the summer.  According to Kyle, " I currently have 12 offers.  I have Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona State, California, Stanford, USC, Gonzaga, Kansas, Santa Clara, Portland, and Wake Forest.  I have a busy summer so I'm going to take all my official visits next year.  I'm just enjoying the process and staying open right now."

Kyle's next stop will be the Pangos All-American camp in Long Beach, California.  He said he's currently been in the gym everyday looking to improve his quickness and leaping ability for the next level.
